Difference between necessary and necessity
Hello, this entry is just to answer a question from my friend several days ago. I am sorry for having been late to answer your question since I am very busy.

My friend asked the difference between necessary and necessity.

Necessity is a noun which means 'a thing that is needed'. Necessary is an adjective which means 'needed'. Thus, "necessity" means "necessary thing".

Older or Elder?

Older or Elder?
It is a beautiful day today. I go to work with all my pleasure. You know my elder brother is smart so he can pass his exam.

In the sentence, I use "elder" because I want to explain my family. But if want to talk other people, of course I will use "older".

So,

Elder is used to talk about family
Older is used to talk about other people

Before and In front of

Before and In front of
As preposition:

Look at these sentences:

I sat in front of him.
I sat before him.

The first sentence means that I sat physically in your sight (it indicates a place) while the second sentence means that I sat the first time then he sat after me (it indicates the time)

Before also used as the conjunction as follow:

Before I enter the room, I knock at the door.

Before is also used to show past time: (check this post about Ago and Before)

I have never been here before.

Ago and Before

Ago and Before
Ago : at a certain time before now and we can count it from now

Before: at any time before now and we do not know the exact time

Three years ago, I saw her here
I have never been here before
I saw her two days ago

Now let us see the sentence below:

Last week I met someone that I had met ten years before.

Note: Although we say ten years but we count it from last week not now, so we use not before not ago.

Improve your vocabulary by reading any type of field

Improve your vocabulary by reading any type of field
English has different meaning when we talk about a type of field. Therefore, we can improve our vocabulary by reading some types of field such as business, monetary, art, and others.

When we find some words that have other meaning from those as usual, we can write them on our notes, then find their meaning in the dictionary. I think this way is helpful when we want to improve our vocabulary.

You can find and read the newspaper, magazine and others to find those words.

What’s the difference between “hear” and “listen to”
Hello readers, nice to meet you here! Today I want to discuss about the question asked to me by someone emailed me. The question is:

What is the difference between “hear” and “listen to”?

The word “hear” means that your ear can do its function that is to catch the sound of someone or something. The word “listen to” means that we hear intentionally, actively, and consciously. If you are now listening to me, I mean that you want to hear from me. Look at the sentence below as the examples:

I can’t hear the sound. Can you hear it?
I am listening to the radio everyday.

Have and have got

12:14 PM 4 Comments
Have and have got
Somebody asked me the difference between "have" and "have got" in a sentence. He or she didn't mention his or her name. It doesn't matter. I hope my explanation will be useful for you and all reader.

"have" or "have got" can be used to speak about possession, relationship, or other states. We can possibly use both of them.

Find out at the examples below:

I have a new car or I have got a new car
I have a house in Jakarta or I have got a house in Jakarta
I have a cold or I have got a cold
I don't have a new car or I haven't got a new car
Do you have a cold? or Have you got a cold?

However, when "have" is used to speak about the actions or experiences, "have got" is not possible.

I will have a shower at 2 o'clock. Not: I will have got a shower at 2 o'clock
I will have a party tomorrow. Not: I will have got a party tomorrow.

Well, that is all from me.

If you have other opinions please tell us by commenting below.
Thanks.

How to improve vocabulary

2:32 PM 2 Comments
How to improve vocabulary
Today I am confused what to talk about with you, readers. Maybe today, I want to share my experience on learning English, how to improve vocabulary. In the previous post, I suggest you to write at minimum 10 words everyday. That is right. However, there is another way to improve our vocabulary or even not just one but many ways that we can do. For me, I used to listen to a song. Hmm, it is interesting. You know, the first song I learned several years ago, when I was in primary school, is “Wind of Change” sung by Scorpions. I listened to the lesson from BBC World Service radio. Not satisfied learning by song, then I read newspaper in English. I rewrote the words that I did not understand and found the meaning in the dictionary. Next, by watching movies and TV show. This way was effective as well. Besides improving my vocabulary, it also practiced my ear to catch some words. Finally, I can operate computer and internet. In fact, I can learn more from it. Games, joining the forums, online learning, and so on, are my favorite on the internet to improve my vocabulary and all about English.
