Older or Elder?

It is a beautiful day today. I go to work with all my pleasure. You know my elder brother is smart so he can pass his exam.

In the sentence, I use "elder" because I want to explain my family. But if want to talk other people, of course I will use "older".

So,

Elder is used to talk about family
Older is used to talk about other people
